Nine more people have contracted coronavirus in Kenya, the Health Ministry has said.

The nine new cases were detected from 803 samples tested in the past 24 hours and raises the total number of infections in the country to 225.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a media briefing on Wednesday, said none of the nine new patients have a recent history of travel abroad and were identified through contact tracing.

“We are not out of danger. We are aware that there are those looking at our figures and celebrating a bit too early. A comparative review of the countries now being overrun by the virus shows that they were reporting similar figures as we are now,” said Kagwe.

“Our 4.6% death rate is within the global range of 6.3%. Our figures should therefore not delude or deceive any of us into dropping the ball.”

The nine new patients are from Nairobi County (5) and four from Mombasa and are aged between nine and 69 years.

The number of recoveries has also increased to 53 after 12 more Covid-19 patients were discharged after testing negative for the infection. One more patient died of the bug, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10.

1,911 out of the total 2,336 contacts have been monitored and discharged while the remaining 455 are still being followed.

“This battle will be won not by the government but by Kenyans working together,” said Kagwe.

So far, 21 out of the 47 counties have recorded cases of the virus. They include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kiambu, Mandera, Machakos, Nakuru, Kitui, Kajiado and Laikipia.

Others are Kakamega, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Siaya, Uasin Gishu, Kisii, Homa Bay, Nyamira, Nyeri and Kwale.

  1. The low infection rates in…
The low infection rates in Kenya, and Africa in general could be because almost everyone there is vaccinated against TB at Birth. This vaccination is not done in Western Countries and China. TB is an Infection and Inflammation of the lungs, not dissimilar to Covid-19. It may also be the reason the Chinese are going after Africans, because they have noticed that they can have the virus whithout getting sick. Anyway, we don’t have long to wait to know if it is true. Australia has decided to give its Nurses and Doctors in the Frontlines the TB vaccine as adults, and are monitoring the response by the Coronavirus.
