Dennis Itumbi Charged with Authoring Fake Letter on the Alleged DP Ruto’s Assassination Plot

Jubilee digital strategist Dennis Itumbi on Monday appeared in court over the alleged Deputy President William Ruto assassination letter.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, Itumbi was charged with making and publishing a false document without authority.

The charge sheet read the accused published the letter at an unknown location in Kenya on June 20th, 2019, purporting it to be a genuine document authored by a Cabinet Secretary.

He was also charged with reprogramming of a mobile phone contrary to Section 84G of the Kenya Information and Communication Act.

Itumbi denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

Itumbi was arrested by detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at a restaurant within Nairobi CBD on July 3rd in connection with the alleged assassination letter.

He was freed on July 10th after Resident Magistrate Zainab Abdul dismissed the prosecution’s claims that he would interfere with investigations if set free.

The letter alleged that some leaders drawn from Mt. Kenya region, including four Cabinet Secretaries, held secret meetings at La Mada Hotel in Nairobi to plan Ruto’s assassination.
It mentioned Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya (Trade), Joe Mucheru (ICT), James Macharia (Transport) and Sicily Kariuki (Health) as among those present at the said meetings.
