A Kenyan man reported to be a Kenya Airways crew member was on Monday nabbed with 23 kilograms of smuggled gold bars in Mumbai, India.
The 29-year-old man identified as Abdalla Ali, had tucked the 156 gold bars believed to be worth Sh100 million in a waist belt and knee-cap supports.
Indian Newspaper, The Times reports that Ali was arrested moments after booking a room at a five-star hotel near the International Airport. The Newspaper further reported that this was the biggest haul of smuggled items ever seized from an airline staff in the Indian Capital City.
Also apprehended together with Ali was another 26-year-old Kenyan man, Ibrahim Ali Hussein, allegedly supposed to collect the gold from him.
Ali is said to have landed in India at around 4pm aboard a Flight KQ210 and proceeded to the hotel after clearance by the customs authorities. He was arrested after an attendant at the hotel grew suspicious, as another foreigner kept walking close to him on the premises, prompting him to alert the police.
