The government is committed to improving the welfare and conditions of service for police officers, President Kenyatta has said.
Speaking when he officially closed the annual Inspector General of Police conference at Kenya School of Government on Friday, the Head of State pledged to soon commission a hospital that will specifically deal with cases touching on police officers while their line of duty.
The President further promised to roll out a special medical insurance for police officers to enable them have easy access to health services.
“I will soon commission a police hospital and come up with a robust medical insurance that will cover you and your families,” he said.
The police service will further receive two more helicopters by March, in addition to the current three M17 helicopters, to enhance the movement of police to troubled zone. Police patrol cars will also be increased to 6,140, the president pledged.
He hailed the police for keeping Kenyans safe throughout the difficult electioneering period last year.
“2017 was quite an eventful year for the service. You were tried and tested but you proved equal to the task. I haven’t gotten a chance to personally say am grateful for all that you did in ensuring Kenyans are safe,” he said.
Kenya is becoming a Police…
Kenya is becoming a Police State, instead of a Democratic State. So he prepared.
Mr. president, many kenyans…
Mr. president, many kenyans get hurt or injured “in line of duty”,through bad roads, bad cops, bad houses ,thugs..ect. I would like the government to make all hospitals special so that an injured Kenyan is taken to the nearest hospital for best life-saving treatment.
@Guest1, you are a total…
@Guest1, you are a total moron with a lump of ugali and simu a wiki in your skull instead of brains. FYI, there can’t be a strong stable democratic state if there is no effective law enforcement to safeguard peace and protect people and property. Every time your evil baba tells his lazy idlers to demonstrate law abiding citizens and their properties need police protection against marauding Ofinga Demonic Morons the likes of you. Strengthening our police force is a good thing that makes our democratic state stronger. And @Maxiley, establishing well equipped hospital(s) for our men and women in police service will only improve overall delivery of medical services. Rather than make demands about the poor state of hospitals, such demands should be directed to county governments because hospitals and medical services were devolved to the counties; which I strongly feel was a grave mistake and disservice to the people. Because of devolved corruption at the county level, medical services at the so called Level 5 hospitals has deteriorated so badly because of rampant corruption by county executives, doctors and other staff. The public must demand medical services at the existing facilities be improved by eradicating corruption and enacting strong accountability measures before we can demand construction of more hospital which have become defacto centers of outright corruption and funds mismanagement.
Kenju, that the cops would…
Kenju, that the cops would be better off in a sense ,with good and well equipped hospitals is not disputed.My concern is that nobody knows when an accident,sickness,or basically an emergency will occur.Therefore,a well equipped hospital relatively near by would do alot toward the well being of the patient.But Iam with you wananchi should demand better infrastructure and amenities after all they are the ones affected and also foot the bill.
