Three People Shot at President Uhuru's Rally in Marsabit

Two people are fighting for their lives at Marsabit Referral Hospital after being shot at during President Kenyatta’s rally in Marsabit town on Wednesday.

The two and a third person, who was slightly injured, were rushed to Marsabit Referral Hospital for treatment.

The shooting occurred as police intervened to disperse clashing supporters of Jubilee and Frontier Alliance parties governor candidates.

Several other people sustained minor head and hand injuries as supporters of gubernatorial candidates Ukur Yattani (Frontier Alliance) and Mohamud Ali (Jubilee) engaged each other shortly after President Uhuru’s departure to Samburu.

The rival groups pelted stones at each other after heckling and chanting match failed to show a clear winner between them.

A similar clash was witnessed in the morning as they waited for the arrival of President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto from Moyale.

Yattani and Ali hail from two dominant tribes in the county— Gabbra and Boran, each seeking to have one of their own at the helm of county top seat.

The two are backing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection in the August 8th elections.
