Nairobi County gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko says that the university degree he attained two years ago has transformed his behavior from a man he was before, to a Nairobi governor material.
Speaking during an interview with Radio Citizen on Sunday, the outgoing Nairobi senator, who took part in the same interview with his arc-rival in the Nairobi race Evans Kidero, divulged that the many things he learnt in the university has contributed to change in his character
“So many things happened in the past when I was serving as MP, not Senator. But now I have grown up. I have gone to school and one of the things I studied is ‘governance and ethics,” he told the ‘Debe La Citizen’ show hosted by Salim Swaleh.
The flamboyant senator graduated from Methodist University in 2015 with a degree in Business Administration, in what was seen as preparation for the Nairobi governor bid.
The former Makadara Member of Parliament made a debut in politics in 2011, during a by-election and trounced seasoned politicians, Dick Wathika and Reuben Ndolo to clinch the seat.
Upon sailing to the Parliament, the then young Sonko was involved in chaos, and at one time, broke a chain that Nairobi City Council askaris had used to clamp his car.
The Jubilee party Nairobi governor candidate now says he is a changed man and has left all the drama to the past, and is now focused on transforming the ‘city in the sun’.
“After graduating with my first degree, I wanted to apply the skills I had learnt at school. This is a different contestant, a different Sonko. I am even putting on a sleek suit to polish my image,” said Sonko. “Dressing cannot determine how I live. I will put on suits at official functions but I will change to casual (wears) during weekends,” he added.
Haaaaaaa wearing suits don’t…
Haaaaaaa wearing suits don’t make u smart or intelligent in yr brain.A performer or a leader will serve the people when dressed with jeans, shorts or naked.Degree is good but doesn’t mean it changes yr bad behsviours, hate, racism among pple.So sonko whatever u did before to me u were trying to get using force what rich pple have stollen from the poor n it worked???In Africa we need such a character like u or baba Yao waititu because the rich seems to grab everything but with you guys u know how to fight for wanjiku.
If suits n degrees changes somebody then how comes Africa at large remains very poor yet 99% of our leaders r schooled in diasporas n they have plenty of suits they wear so as I always say waafrica tumenjazwa na unjinga kwa vichwa zetu coz this is mzungu mentality brainwashed!i remember growing up in pcea church haungeenda hapa mbele without a suit or tie n I was a young men out of high school but personally I stood my ground I challenged those wazee that I don’t like suits or ties n I served. So dressing has nothing to do with yr performance. If I was elected mp I will bring a motion to do away with suits in parliament???Also who thinks ur smart coz ur wearing a suit n a tie.Mzungu stupid mentality as I called it?????
