Kenya Commits to Supporting Diaspora Community Through Regional Policy

Kenya's government, under the leadership of Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the diaspora community.

This commitment encompasses ensuring access to essential services, protecting the rights of citizens abroad, and facilitating their contributions to regional development. In a formal meeting with East African Community (EAC) Principal Secretary Abdi Dubat Fidhow, discussions centred on finalizing the EAC Diaspora Policy, a strategic framework crucial for promoting integration and socio-economic benefits for East Africans living outside their home countries.

Njogu highlights that the successful implementation of this policy is vital for harmonizing regional initiatives and enhancing the well-being of the diaspora. The EAC Diaspora Policy aims to enable East Africans abroad to fully leverage regional opportunities. Njogu praises the policy's potential to drive growth and innovation, positioning it as a key element in fostering integration among East African nations.

The dialogue with Fidhow also focused on improving the welfare of the Kenyan diaspora within the EAC framework. Both officials emphasize the need for collaborative efforts to tackle the unique challenges that diaspora communities encounter, including obstacles to documentation, regional mobility, and access to opportunities.

They express a shared commitment to initiatives that empower East Africans abroad, enhancing their welfare while promoting regional development. Overall, the Kenyan government is making significant strides to improve the lives of its diaspora community through the EAC Diaspora Policy
