Kenyan Family Appeals for Help to Rescue Daughter Languishing in an Omani Jail

A Kenyan family from Nakuru is appealing for help to rescue their kin who has been languishing in an Omani jail.

Noela Njeri was reportedly arrested and incarcerated about eight months ago over an alleged debt amounting to 1,000 Oman Rials (Sh280,000).

Her mother Teresa Wambui Omuhaya says the debt was incurred out of an agreement that she signed without knowing the exact contents as it was authored in Arabic.

Njeri, 24, traveled to Oman in December 2019 to seek employment and was allegedly working as a barrister before she was arrested on November 9th, 2020.

Her father Robert Omuhaya, who died in 2008, was a former District Officer (DO) in Mbogoine in Subukia, Nakuru County.

The family’s attempts to get her a lawyer through the Kenyan Embassy in Oman have been unsuccessful.

The complainant is said to be her Arab employer, who is still reportedly holding her passport.

The family is appealing to the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help secure her release and repatriation back home.

  1. Why do we have incompetent,…
Why do we have incompetent, docile and rather lethargic people working in these Embassies?
Jailed over debt for 8 months? These are situations where we lose respect in other foreign countries. This is a case where Kenya would qualify for “Shithole Country Medal”

  2. MMMmmmm . Iam not sure how…
MMMmmmm . Iam not sure how that kind of thing operates in Omani, but rarely adept could send someone to jail. When one defaults, apayment plan could be instituted,or a collateral forfeited …
Something is not adding up here. If the complainant is the employer, why not deduct payments from her salary?Or is it a former employer…
For those who are in the know, what is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs supposed to do in such a case? Certainly you wouldnt want her to leave without paying her debt…If at all its adebt.

  3. Sorry to hear this sad story…
Sorry to hear this sad story why do Arabic countries carry out modern slave trade they ought to be flagged as human trafficking center .Why does the Kenya army go to rescue those people diplomacy has a limit.

  4. This is basically modern day…
This is basically modern day slavery.
I feel the pain the family is going through. We have said it over and over again…the Arab countries don’t care about no one but their own.
Secondly, the agents have learned something from what Nigerians do, sex slaves, threats and of course the SHAME of going majuu then coming home broke…
She is a pretty sister, so the MADAM of the house will feel threatened.
Let’s be real, most of us men are efing dogs. Jaza

    • @ Kora Kanini, Its the Koran…
@ Kora Kanini, Its the Koran.I dont follow these foreign religions, but I know alittle bit about them.If truth be told,Jesus behaved more humanely than Mohammad.I dont have to narrate the reasons, because one can find them on the internet,or other sources.
I mention this because,in this so called modern civilized world where science tells us that we all equal,it is not fashionable to strongly disagree with that fact, when your religion tells you otherwise. So you quietly follow you religion. For example in Koran I hear that taking advantage of your slave was encouraged by their prophet.Obviously,it would be shameful to overtly practice that…Needless to say that, that posses a big problem to MADAM of the house, when MR brings over a black beauty.
But what is disturbing me most about this case here is that, this lady is supposedly well versed in matters of the law.How could she sign acontract that she did not understand?

Now Ruto and kangata needs to open diaspora office in all these demon possessed Arab countries to bail out innocent ppl who are enslaved daily. Identify agents and make sure they offer disclaimer and transparent info and contracts

  7. Can we raise the said kshs…
Can we raise the said kshs. 280,000.00 plus interest and secure her release?

This wasn’t a debt , debt! It’s the salve master demanding the money he/she spend filing for the formalities required to to get this girl to their country. Arab countries do that; pretty much rob you off any legal rights & your passport so that you remain enslaved.

  8. I am willing to assist(and I…
I am willing to assist(and I hope that there are others too with whom I can brainstorm), if perhaps there is a way to link me with the family, also contact with the employer to whom the debt is owed. At the end of the day, these are our children, whether they decide to go into dangerous territories to work etc despite hearing the horror stories from those who have been there before.

  9. Any updates on this…
Any updates on this situation that you had earlier reported? I am still willing to assist the young lady to reunite with her mother and family in Kenya.
